You Think Google Alerts Are A Waste Of Time?

Google Alerts – Google News Alerts

(Just another time waster!)

If that is your thinking, you have just fallen into the category of ill informed, bordering on just too ignorant for your own good and the good of your income! The purpose of Google Alerts is to help you to monitor the web for interesting new content. When there are results for your specific interests, Google alerts will send emails to you with links to the pages that meet your query.

For my more knowledgeable followers, Google Alerts has changed in the last few days. If you go there now you will find the apparent changes!

They have given me some suggestions, but based on their suggestion of “Beyonce” they haven’t “read my mail.” China and Detroit haven’t been what I have been interested in the last few weeks either, so I can only guess that their suggestions are based on total Google searches.

I am not going to get into the mechanics of how to use the Google Alerts setup. Once you “Google” it and sign into it with your Gmail/Google account it will be VERY simple. Just be sure to click on the options and the pull down options there.

Unless you want to read this blog twice, I would highly recommend that you bring up a screen for note taking or get something to write with and a  good size piece of paper.

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure you know how to set up rules in your email program so that when you get specific alerts, they will go into specific folders.  If you don’t know how to do that, I will walk you through it pro bono as long as you use Gmail or Outlook. Just request a phone appointment. Another alternative would be to get a Gmail account just for your alerts.

Make a concrete appointment on your calendar for thirty minutes with yourself to set this up. One time and you are set indefinitely. You can always add and delete alerts as you need to in the future.
